J-Phil is a joint effort of the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University and the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania to promote new research and foster intellectual community among scholars interested in the study of Jewish philanthropy. Its aim is to develop the study of Jewish philanthropy as a robust field of research, within both Jewish Studies and Philanthropic Studies.
At the heart of J-Phil is a consortium of scholars representing different institutions and disciplines. Through workshops, conferences, and publications, the consortium will advance scholarship on Jewish philanthropy and, also, work to build bridges between scholars and those working in the philanthropic world today, aiming to foster or facilitate new conversations about Jewish philanthropy informed by history, social science and other fields of knowledge
